A key feature of the Canon C500 MkII camera system is its compact size, while allowing multiple enhancements with optional expansion units. In this module Jem shows us the EVF-V50 electronic viewfinder, which can be removed completely for gimbal use, as well as the EU-V1 and EU-V2 expansion units that enable additional audio ports, genlock timecode sync, third party V-mount batteries, and more.

Now that we’re familiar with the camera hardware, it’s time to dive into the menus and configuration to best understand how to setup the camera for the needs of each job. To get it started, Jem takes us through the exposure setup, including options with iris and ISO, ND filters, color temperatures, shutter speed, lens correction, and the advanced autofocus settings. We also learn about the C500 MKII’s digital image stabilization and how it works with both Canon and third party lenses.

There are a ton of custom picture options in this camera, to ensure that it can be matched with other cameras and used in the most specific production scenarios. But it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Should you shoot in BT709, Canon Log2, and in what color matrix? What are the HLG or PQ options? In this lesson, Jem takes us through the wide variety of picture settings available, while also demonstrating how to work with LUTs in camera as well as outputting to monitors.

An operator favorite of the Cinema EOS line-up since its inception has been the user assignable buttons. The C500 Mark II can have up to 22 assignable buttons when using the EU-V2 expansion module, so there’s a lot of room for customization. Here Jem walks us through how to set this up, plus a time-saving tip for registering your custom presets.

In this lesson we look at general camera settings, which controls resolution output via HDMI or SDI, internal card recording, time code run and sync, and lights on the camera body. Jem also talks about the importance of picking the right fan speed setting, to ensure the camera maintains a cool temperature without spilling over into your audio recording.

In the final lesson of the course, we join Jem in the edit suite to look at the various workflows and tools available for finalizing your footage when using Canon's Cinema RAW Light format. We step through Canon's own utilities as well as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve. Jem also makes his final statements about the course and the C500 Mark II camera.
